KAOBOTA-Japanese smiley cake

These are my entry to the original sweets competition in BIWAKO Biennale two years ago. The biennale is an international art festival held in BIWAKO (BIWA lake, the largest lake in Japan) region, aiming at harmony of Japanese traditions and contemporary arts.BOTA-MOCHI, or sweet rice cake covered with ANKO, or bean jam, is essential to our ancestral worship ritual on equinoxes, and thus has its deep root in our traditional consciousness. My attempt is to combine it with our Internet favorite tool of emoticons, which also serve to avoid conflicts that words tend to rouse, or to communicate non-verval nuances, after all leading to some human harmony on the hi-tech plane of our daily life.
